The Lamborghini Sian FKP 37 is a Supercapacitor Hybrid
By Lamborghini standards, the Sian FKP 37 is a wild car. It's also among the first production hybrids with a supercapacitor.
The Sian is powered by an electric motor of 34 horsepower in the automatic manual gearbox that can reach 80 miles per hour. Then the V-12 takes control. This improves the efficiency of the car and allows it to accelerate rapidly.
Forged Composites
The Sian's Hybrid System comes with an additional feature in its sleeves which is Supercapacitors. It's capable of recharging more quickly than lithium-ion batteries, and the car can be driven for up to 63 seconds using just electric power.
Lamborghini's composites that are forged are the key to making this happen The material could eventually make its way into regular production cars. It begins as a sheet of uncured plastic, which is then mixed with short lengths of carbon fiber strands that are randomly placed strands. It's not as gorgeous as carbon fiber sheets that have been pre-impregnated, but it's much lighter and more rigid.
Operators simply cut the carbon fiber into the desired shape, put it in an oven-heated press mould and squeeze it using heat. It takes only a few minutes complete, whereas it may take hours to make similar parts using traditional methods.
It's not certain if we'll ever see structural forged composite parts in production vehicles, but Lamborghini says its manufacturing friendliness means that it could eventually make its way into more affordable products. It's certainly costly already but if the manufacturing process is able to be scaled up it could help save money in terms of both materials and labor. Forged composite is also more flexible than carbon fiber woven, so engineers can create intricate shapes without adding huge costs or weight.

The name Sian is a Bolognese word meaning lightning. It's a homage to the brand's past and future. The alphanumeric suffix FKP 37 is a tribute to Ferdinand Karl Piech, the man who introduced Lamborghini into the Volkswagen Group family and died shortly before the introduction of the Sian. Only 63 models were produced and are now sold out.
